Scoring System
Scoring assumes that 100 teams are participating. If we allow more teams, then the max number of points accrued for each discipline (e.g., fishing, trapshooting) will increase. Scores will accumulate over both days of competition. If teams are tied at the conclusion of day 2, then tie breakers will determine the placements. The maximum points that can be earned by a team is 200.
- 100 points max for fishing
- 1st place team earns 100 points
- 2nd place team earns 99 points
- etc.
- 100 points max for trapshooting
- 1st place team earns 100 points
- 2nd place team earns 99 points
- etc.
Tie Breakers
The tie breaker format will vary by year. In odd numbered years, trapshooting will be used as the tie breaker. In even numbered years, fishing will be used as the tie breaker.
- Fishing Tie Breaker:
- Largest bass by length is the tie breaker. If teams are still tied, then 2nd largest bass by length is used. This continues until all 7 fish have been evaluated.
- If teams remain tied after all fish have been evaluated, then a trapshooting shoot-off will break the tie.
- Trapshooting Tie Breaker:
- Each team will designate their player that will compete in the shoot-off. Only 1 student from each team will be allowed to compete in the shoot-off.
- Round 1: Students will shoot 25 targets from the 16-yard line. The student with the most “hits” in round 1 is the winner. Round 1 ties are broken via reverse run. If ties remain, then additional rounds are used to break the tie.
- Round 2: 2 targets at each station from the 20-yard line
- Round 3: 2 targets at each station from the 24-yard line
- Round 4: 2 targets at each station from the 27-yard line
- Rounds 2-4+: Once each student has successfully completed the 2 attempts at a given station, the squad will rotate in a clockwise manner to the next station. A student is removed from competition on their first target declared “lost” as long as 2 or more students remain. The shoot-off ends when one of the final 2 students suffers a “lost” target and the remaining student breaks the final target in a given round. Once a round has been completed, remaining students will move on to the following rounds.
